Wildfire Report — National Overview

The United States is operating at Preparedness Level 1. Initial attack activity across the country is light, with 86 new fires reported. Firefighters are managing 8 uncontained large fires, with 2 new large incidents and 1 large fire contained. Total personnel assigned to incidents nationwide is 1,274. Zero Complex Incident Management Teams (CIMTs) and zero NIMOs are committed. Year-to-date, 66,373 wildfires have burned 9,059,044 acres across the United States.

Weather

  1. NYC, Northeast and New England: Dry conditions will persist across the Northeast, while sunny skies and mild daytime temperatures precede chilly overnight lows.

  2. Mid-Atlantic and Southeast: Easterly winds will continue across much of the Southeast with elevated relative humidity and coastal showers, while sunny and mild conditions dominate interior areas.

  3. Midwest, Ohio Valley and Great Lakes: A cold front will track through the Upper Midwest with isolated showers; breezy southwest winds from Minnesota into northern Wisconsin will produce locally elevated fire weather conditions.

  4. Central and Southern Plains: A cold front moves through the central Plains with isolated showers and storms, while dry conditions, low humidity, and well-above-normal temperatures maintain elevated initial attack across the Lower Mississippi Valley.

  5. Rockies, Southwest and West Coast: Low pressure moving through the central and southern Rockies will bring heavy rainfall and high-elevation snow, while northern California experiences locally breezy, dry north winds.

  6. Alaska and Hawaii: A strong Bering Sea storm will drive strong winds, heavy snow, and blizzard conditions across western Alaska and the western Interior, with drier weather to the east.

Washington

The Northwest Area is operating at Preparedness Level 1. The region reports 2 uncontained large fires active.

The Sisi fire on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest is located ten miles northwest of Stehekin, WA. It covers 4,743 acres and is 34% contained. It is burning in timber and closed timber litter. No new information was reported.

  • Seattle — Mostly cloudy, High: 55°F, Low: 43°F.

  • Yakima — Mostly cloudy, High: 57°F, Low: 33°F.

Oregon

Oregon wildland fire operations continue under Northwest Area coordination at Preparedness Level 1.

The Austin fire on the Mt. Hood National Forest covers 12,888 acres and is 98% contained. Located twenty-five miles southeast of Estacada, OR, the fire is burning in brush, timber, and closed timber litter, exhibiting minimal fire behavior with smoldering. Area, road, and trail closures remain in effect.

  • Medford — Sunny, High: 69°F, Low: 36°F.

  • Portland OR — Mostly cloudy, High: 62°F, Low: 41°F.

California

Northern California is operating at Preparedness Level 2, and Southern California is operating at Preparedness Level 2. Northern California reports 1 uncontained large fire, and Southern California reports 1 uncontained large fire active.

The Timber fire in the Los Padres National Forest is located four miles southeast of Big Sur, CA. It covers 25,350 acres and is 97% contained. It is burning in grass, timber, and chaparral. One structure has been lost, and this is the last narrative report unless new information is received.

The Cooley fire, managed by the Mendocino Unit of Cal Fire, is located four miles south of Yorkville, CA. It covers 1,365 acres and is 86% contained. It is burning in timber, brush, and grass, exhibiting minimal fire behavior.

Idaho

Idaho coordinates wildland fire operations across both the Northern Rockies (Preparedness Level 1) and Great Basin (Preparedness Level 2) geographic areas. No active uncontained large fires are detailed for Idaho.

Mississippi

The Pontotoc Pennington Rd fire, managed by the Mississippi Forestry Commission, is a new large incident located seven miles southwest of Pontotoc, MS. It covers 171 acres and is 90% contained. Burning in timber and hardwood litter, it exhibits minimal fire behavior with backing and creeping. This is the last report unless significant activity occurs.

The Claiborne Freeman Hall fire, managed by the Mississippi Forestry Commission, burned 130 acres and is 100% contained.

Alabama

The Southern Area is operating at Preparedness Level 2, coordinating suppression across Alabama. No uncontained large fires are detailed.

The Ridge fire, managed by the Michigan DNR, is located six miles north of Negaunee, MI. It covers 466 acres and is 50% contained. It is burning in timber and hardwood litter, exhibiting minimal fire behavior with smoldering. Structures are threatened and trail closures are in effect.

The Black River fire, managed by the Michigan DNR, is located four miles south of Wakefield, MI. It covers 326 acres and is 75% contained. It is burning in timber and grass with minimal fire behavior with smoldering.

Florida

The Southern Area is operating at Preparedness Level 2.

The Bee Haven 2 24-06 fire, managed by the Florida Forest Service, is located twenty-eight miles northwest of Lake City, FL. It covers 2,060 acres and is 80% contained. It is burning in closed timber litter. No new information was reported.
