The U.S. is at Preparedness Level 2.
Initial attack activity across the country is light, with 47 new fires reported nationwide yesterday.
Firefighters are currently working to manage 9 uncontained large fires, with 1 new large incident emerging, 1 large fire contained, and 3,205 total personnel assigned to incidents nationwide.
Nationally, 2 Complex Incident Management Teams (CIMTs) are committed.
So far in 2026, firefighters have responded to 63,590 wildfires that have burned 9,012,518 acres across the United States.
Very hot temperatures up to 105°F continue across California where Extreme Heat Warnings and Heat Advisories remain in effect through Friday evening.
Winds will be mostly light, but northerly winds may gust 20-25 mph over the high terrain near the Sierra Front. Relative humidity across the Great Basin will continue to drop into the teens with poor overnight recovery as temperatures 5-15°F above normal persist there and spread east across the northern Plains.
Hot, dry, and breezy conditions will develop across the lower Mississippi Valley ahead of Hurricane Isaias.
Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will develop across the Four Corners region today and light rain will fall across the Northeast.
Precipitation will otherwise be limited to showers across central Florida, though these will be heavy at times.
Washington
The Northwest Area is operating at Preparedness Level 2, coordinating 4 uncontained large fires across the region.
The Little Giant fire in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest stands at 172,906 acres (93% contained) under CIMT (NW Team 12), which is also managing the Sisi incident. Located thirty miles northwest of Leavenworth, WA, it is burning in timber and dormant brush with minimal fire behavior with smoldering, creeping and backing. Structures are threatened, 40 structures have been lost, and area, road and trail closures are in effect. The Sisi fire covers 4,401 acres (29% contained) with moderate fire behavior with smoldering, backing and flanking. Located ten miles northwest of Stehekin, WA, it is burning in timber and closed timber litter. Residences are threatened, and area, road and trail closures are in effect.

Oregon
Oregon wildland fire operations continue under Northwest Area coordination (Preparedness Level 2).
The Austin fire on the Mt. Hood National Forest covers 12,888 acres (98% contained). Located twenty-five miles southeast of Estacada, OR, the fire is burning in brush, timber and closed timber litter with minimal fire behavior with smoldering and creeping. Area, road and trail closures are in effect. The Grasshopper fire fourteen miles southwest of Dufur, OR, covers 93,972 acres (98% contained) in brush, hardwood litter and closed timber litter. It exhibits minimal fire behavior with creeping and smoldering. Area, road and trail closures are in effect, and 33 structures have been lost.

California

In Southern California, 1 CIMT remains committed across 3 uncontained large fires. The Dome fire in Yosemite National Park covers 6,815 acres (47% contained) under CIMT (CA Team 4). Located one mile north of Wawona, CA, it is burning in timber, brush and medium slash, exhibiting minimal fire behavior with spotting, creeping and smoldering. Area, road and trail closures are in effect. The Bouquet fire on the Angeles National Forest covers 1,048 acres (83% contained). Located eight miles northeast of Saugus, CA, it is burning in chaparral, grass and brush, exhibiting minimal fire behavior with smoldering. Energy infrastructure is threatened, and area and trail closures are in effect. The Timber fire in the Los Padres National Forest four miles southeast of Big Sur stands at 25,350 acres (94% contained) in grass, timber and chaparral. It displays minimal fire behavior with creeping and smoldering. Area, road and trail closures are in effect, and 1 structure has been lost.

The fire is burning in timber, grass and brush, covering 1,529 acres (92% contained) with minimal fire behavior with creeping and smoldering.
