Wildfire Report — National Overview

The U.S. is at Preparedness Level 2. 

Initial attack activity across the country is light, with 32 new fires reported nationwide yesterday. 

Firefighters are currently working to manage 9 uncontained large fires, with 1 new large incident emerging, 1 large fire contained, and 3,994 total personnel assigned to incidents nationwide. 

Nationally, 2 Complex Incident Management Teams (CIMTs) are committed. 

So far in 2026, firefighters have responded to 63,090 wildfires that have burned 9,011,643 acres across the United States.

Very hot temperatures reaching into the low 100s will continue across the California Central Valley and portions of southern California this afternoon with very low relative humidity of 10-20%. 

Winds will be light across most of California however. 

Afternoon highs 5-15°F above normal continue across the Great Basin and into Montana and Wyoming. 

Winds in Montana and Wyoming will be locally breezy, but generally not as windy as Monday. 

Near normal temperatures are expected across the Southwest and through the lower Mississippi Valley, while below normal temperatures are expected across the east coast. 

Moderate to heavy rain will continue across Florida and southern Georgia. 

Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected across the Wasatch and the Colorado Rockies. 

 Mainly dry conditions will prevail elsewhere.


Washington

The Northwest Area is operating at Preparedness Level 2, coordinating 5 uncontained large fires across the region.

The Little Giant fire in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest stands at 172,904 acres (93% contained) under CIMT (NW Team 12), which is also managing the Sisi incident. Located thirty miles northwest of Leavenworth, WA, it is burning in timber and dormant brush with minimal fire behavior with smoldering, creeping and backing. Structures are threatened, 40 structures have been lost, and area, road and trail closures are in effect. The Sisi fire covers 4,368 acres (29% contained) with moderate fire behavior with smoldering, backing and flanking, threatening residences. Located ten miles northwest of Stehekin, WA, it is burning in timber and closed timber litter, with area, road and trail closures in effect. The Sinlahekin fire, managed by the Washington DNR (Northeast Region) one mile west of Tonasket, WA, spans 166,007 acres (99% contained), with 33 structures lost.

Oregon

Oregon wildland fire operations continue under Northwest Area coordination (Preparedness Level 2).

The Austin fire on the Mt. Hood National Forest covers 12,888 acres (98% contained). Located twenty-five miles southeast of Estacada, OR, the fire is burning in brush, timber and closed timber litter. The Grasshopper fire fourteen miles southwest of Dufur, OR, covers 93,972 acres (98% contained) in brush, hardwood litter and closed timber litter, with 33 structures lost.

California

Northern California is operating at Preparedness Level 2, and Southern California is operating at Preparedness Level 3.

Northern California reports 0 uncontained large fires.

In Southern California, 1 CIMT remains committed across 3 uncontained large fires. The Bouquet fire on the Angeles National Forest covers 1,048 acres (63% contained). Located eight miles northeast of Saugus, CA, it is burning in chaparral, grass and brush, exhibiting minimal fire behavior with creeping, smoldering and isolated torching. Numerous structures and energy infrastructure are threatened, with evacuations, area, road and trail closures in effect. The Dome fire in Yosemite National Park covers 6,760 acres (40% contained) under CIMT (CA Team 4). Located one mile north of Wawona, CA, it is burning in timber, brush and medium slash, exhibiting moderate fire behavior with spotting, creeping and single tree torching. Area, road and trail closures are in effect. The Timber fire in the Los Padres National Forest four miles southeast of Big Sur stands at 25,350 acres (90% contained) in grass, timber and chaparral. It displays minimal fire behavior with creeping and smoldering. Area, road and trail closures are in effect, and 1 structure has been lost.

Idaho

Idaho coordinates wildland fire operations across both the Northern Rockies and Great Basin geographic areas, with both regions reporting no uncontained large fires currently detailed for the state.

Montana

The Bull fire, managed by the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District, is located fifteen miles west of Reno, NV. The fire is burning in timber, grass and brush, covering 1,529 acres (44% contained).
