Wildfire Report — National Overview
The U.S. is at Preparedness Level 2.
Initial attack activity across the country is light, with 50 new fires reported nationwide yesterday.
Firefighters are currently working to manage 9 uncontained large fires, with 1 new large incident emerging, 0 large fires contained, and 4,576 total personnel assigned to incidents nationwide.
Nationally, 2 Complex Incident Management Teams (CIMTs) are committed.
So far in 2026, firefighters have responded to 62,964 wildfires that have burned 9,007,037 acres across the United States.
Very warm and dry conditions will expand across more of the West today with afternoon highs 10–20°F above normal from the northern Rockies and Northwest south to California and Nevada.
Maxima near 100°F are expected in the California Central Valley and portions of southern California.
Very low relative humidity of 5–15% will persist in California and Nevada, spreading into Oregon and Idaho, and poor overnight recovery of 20–40% is expected for mid-slopes and ridges.
However, temperatures will remain near to below normal in the Southwest.
A stalled cold front along the northern Gulf Coast and into the Southeast will bring scattered to widespread showers and thunderstorms and areas of heavy rain bringing significant relief from the very dry conditions of late.
Washington
The Northwest Area is operating at Preparedness Level 2, coordinating 5 uncontained large fires across the region.
The Little Giant fire in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest stands at 172,902 acres (93% contained) under CIMT (NW Team 12), which is also managing the Sisi incident. Located thirty miles northwest of Leavenworth, WA, it is burning in timber and dormant brush with minimal fire behavior displaying smoldering, creeping, and backing. Structures remain threatened, 40 structures have been lost, and area, road, and trail closures are in effect. The Sisi fire covers 4,352 acres (29% contained) with moderate fire behavior exhibiting backing, flanking, and smoldering, threatening residences. Located ten miles northwest of Stehekin, WA, it is burning in timber and closed timber litter, with area, road, and trail closures remaining in effect. The Sinlahekin fire, managed by the Washington Department of Natural Resources (Northeast Region) one mile west of Tonasket, WA, spans 166,007 acres (99% contained) with minimal fire behavior exhibiting crowning and smoldering, 33 structures lost, and area, road, and trail closures in effect.

Oregon
Oregon wildland fire operations continue under Northwest Area coordination (Preparedness Level 2).
The Austin fire on the Mt. Hood National Forest covers 12,888 acres (98% contained). Located twenty-five miles southeast of Estacada, OR, the fire is burning in brush, timber, and closed timber litter with minimal fire behavior. Area, road, and trail closures remain in effect. The Grasshopper fire fourteen miles southwest of Dufur covers 93,972 acres (98% contained) in brush, hardwood litter, and closed timber litter, displaying minimal fire behavior with smoldering and creeping, with 33 structures lost and area, road, and trail closures in effect.

California

In Southern California, 1 CIMT remains committed across 3 uncontained large fires. The new Bouquet fire on the Angeles National Forest covers 1,000 acres (0% contained). Located eight miles northeast of Saugus, CA, it is burning in chaparral, grass, and brush, exhibiting active fire behavior with uphill runs, short-range spotting, and torching. Residences and energy infrastructure are threatened, with evacuations and road closures in effect. The Dome fire in Yosemite National Park covers 6,670 acres (40% contained) under CIMT (CA Team 4). Located one mile north of Wawona, CA, it is burning in timber, brush, and medium slash, exhibiting moderate fire behavior with spotting, uphill runs, and single tree torching. Area, road, and trail closures remain in effect. The Timber fire in the Los Padres National Forest four miles southeast of Big Sur stands at 25,350 acres (88% contained) in grass, timber, and chaparral. It displays minimal fire behavior with creeping and smoldering, while numerous structures remain threatened, 1 structure has been lost, and area, road, and trail closures remain active.
