Wildfire Report — National Overview

The United States is operating at Preparedness Level 1. Initial attack activity across the country is light, with 51 new fires reported. Firefighters are managing 8 uncontained large fires, with 1 new large incident and 0 large fires contained. Total personnel assigned to incidents nationwide is 1,230. Zero Complex Incident Management Teams (CIMTs) and zero NIMOs are committed. Year-to-date, 66,494 wildfires have burned 9,060,375 acres across the United States.

Weather

  1. Central and Northern Plains: Low pressure weakens over the Plains with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms.

  2. Northeast and Great Lakes: A dry cold front will move through the Northeast.

  3. Northwest and Northern Rockies: A Pacific storm will move into the Northwest and northern Rockies with a cold front producing light to moderate rain in the lower elevations and snow above 5,000 to 7,000 feet.

  4. West: Dry air with near to below normal temperatures are expected in California and the Greater Four Corners.

  5. Southeast and Lower Mississippi Valley: Gusty easterly winds will diminish in the Southeast today, but temperatures will remain above normal with minimum relative humidity of 20-30% in the Lower Mississippi Valley.

  6. Alaska: A strong storm will move east through Alaska, with heavy snow and localized blizzard conditions for the central Interior, while western Alaska observes less precipitation and light rain and snow occurs in south-central Alaska.

  7. Hawaii: Trade winds will remain light, with isolated to scattered showers.

Washington

The Northwest Area is operating at Preparedness Level 1. The region reports 2 uncontained large fires active.

The Sisi fire on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest is located ten miles northwest of Stehekin, WA. It covers 4,743 acres and is 34% contained. It is burning in timber and closed timber litter. The fire exhibits minimal fire behavior with creeping, smoldering and backing, and residences are threatened. Area, road and trail closures are in effect.

  • Seattle — Rain, High: 56°F, Low: 46°F.

  • Yakima — Showers, High: 56°F, Low: 36°F.

Oregon

Oregon wildland fire operations continue under Northwest Area coordination at Preparedness Level 1.

The Austin fire on the Mt. Hood National Forest covers 12,888 acres and is 98% contained. Located twenty-five miles southeast of Estacada, OR, the fire is burning in brush, timber, and closed timber litter, exhibiting minimal fire behavior with smoldering. Area, road, and trail closures remain in effect.

  • Medford — Rain, High: 57°F, Low: 38°F.

  • Portland OR — Showers, High: 58°F, Low: 46°F.

California

Northern California is operating at Preparedness Level 2, and Southern California is operating at Preparedness Level 2. Northern California reports 0 uncontained large fires, and Southern California reports 1 uncontained large fire active.

The Timber fire on the Los Padres National Forest covers 25,350 acres and is 97% contained. One structure has been lost.

Idaho

Idaho coordinates wildland fire operations across both the Northern Rockies (Preparedness Level 1) and Great Basin (Preparedness Level 2) geographic areas. No active uncontained large fires are detailed for Idaho.

The Black River fire, managed by the Michigan DNR, is located four miles south of Wakefield, MI. It covers 326 acres and is 80% contained. It is burning in timber and grass with minimal fire behavior with smoldering.

The Bee Haven 2 24-06 fire, managed by the Florida Forest Service, is located twenty-eight miles northwest of Lake City, FL. It covers 2,060 acres and is 80% contained. It is burning in southern rough. The fire exhibits moderate fire behavior with short-range spotting.
