Wildfire Report — National Overview

The U.S. is at Preparedness Level 2.

Initial attack activity across the country is light, with 64 new fires reported nationwide yesterday.

Firefighters are currently working to manage 10 uncontained large fires, with 1 new large incident emerging, 1 large fire contained, and 4,189 total personnel assigned to incidents nationwide.

Nationally, 2 Complex Incident Management Teams (CIMTs) are committed.

So far in 2026, firefighters have responded to 62,875 wildfires that have burned 9,004,211 acres across the United States.

Very warm and dry conditions will continue in California and Nevada with high temperatures 85–100°F, which are as much as 20 degrees above normal.

Very low relative humidity of 5–15% will persist and poor overnight recovery of 20–40% is expected for mid-slopes and ridges.

Above normal temperatures will stretch north and eastward into much of the northern half of the West and Rockies, but temperatures will remain near to below normal in most of the Southwest.

A cold front along the northern Gulf Coast and into the Southeast will begin to stall with scattered to widespread showers and thunderstorms bringing relief from the very dry conditions of late.

A weak cold front will move through the northern Plains and Upper Midwest with scattered light showers.
