National Overview

Wildfire Report — National Overview

The U.S. is at Preparedness Level 2. 

Initial attack activity across the country is light, with 64 new fires reported nationwide yesterday. 

Firefighters are currently working to manage 14 uncontained large fires, with 2 new large incidents emerging, 0 large fires contained, and 4,220 total personnel assigned to incidents nationwide. 

Nationally, 4 Complex Incident Management Teams (CIMTs) are committed. So far in 2026, firefighters have responded to 62,369 wildfires that have burned 8,604,892 acres across the United States.

A slow-moving storm will bring widespread showers and thunderstorms across central and east Texas into eastern Oklahoma and the Mid-Mississippi Valley, with areas of flooding possible in Texas. 

Farther east, breezy south winds of 10–20 mph are expected amid above normal temperatures in the Lower Mississippi Valley, but overall relative humidity will begin to gradually increase. 

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will also develop today along the Gulf Coast and Florida, with showers into the Ohio Valley and Lower Great Lakes as well. 

A warming trend will continue across the West, with temperatures rising above 90°F in the lower elevations of California, and above normal temperatures spreading into the Northwest and northern Rockies.


Washington

The Northwest Area is operating at Preparedness Level 2, coordinating 8 uncontained large fires across the region.

The Little Giant fire in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest stands at 172,896 acres (93% contained) under CIMT (NW Team 12), which is also managing the Sisi incident. Located thirty miles northwest of Leavenworth, WA, it is burning in timber and dormant brush with minimal fire behavior displaying creeping, backing, and smoldering. Structures remain threatened, and area, road, and trail closures are in effect. The Sisi fire covers 4,330 acres (29% contained) with moderate fire behavior exhibiting backing, creeping, and flanking, threatening residences. Area, road, and trail closures remain in effect. The Sinlahekin fire one mile west of Tonasket spans 166,007 acres (94% contained) with minimal creeping and smoldering. Area, road, and trail closures are in effect. The Three Queens fire six miles east of Snoqualmie Pass covers 9,575 acres (33% contained) in timber, brush, and grass, with no new information reported today (last narrative report unless new information is received).

Oregon

Oregon wildland fire operations continue under Northwest Area coordination (Preparedness Level 2).

The Austin fire on the Mt. Hood National Forest covers 12,888 acres (98% contained). Transfer of command from CIMT (CA Team 2) back to the local unit will occur today. The CIMT is also managing the Grasshopper and The Narrows incidents. Located twenty-five miles southeast of Estacada, OR, the fire is burning in brush, timber, and closed timber litter with minimal behavior displaying smoldering and creeping. A slight reduction in acreage was reported due to more accurate mapping. The Grasshopper fire fourteen miles southwest of Dufur covers 93,972 acres (98% contained) displaying minimal fire behavior with smoldering and creeping. The Narrows fire fifteen miles southeast of Estacada covers 305 acres (98% contained) exhibiting minimal fire behavior with smoldering (last report unless significant activity occurs). The Hagen fire twenty-six miles east of Pendleton on the Umatilla National Forest stands at 61,380 acres (99% contained) with minimal smoldering (last report unless significant activity occurs). Area, road, and trail closures remain in effect for the Austin and Grasshopper fires.

California

Northern California is operating at Preparedness Level 2, and Southern California is operating at Preparedness Level 3.

Northern California reports no uncontained large fires detailed in today's report.

In Southern California, two CIMTs remain committed across two uncontained large fires. The Dome fire in Yosemite National Park covers 5,667 acres (40% contained). Transfer of command from CIMT (CA Team 3) to CIMT (CA Team 4) will occur tomorrow. Located one mile north of Wawona, CA, it is burning in timber, brush, and heavy slash, exhibiting moderate fire behavior with flanking, uphill runs, and single tree torching. Area, road, and trail closures are in effect. The Timber fire in the Los Padres National Forest four miles southeast of Big Sur stands at 25,349 acres (88% contained) in grass, timber, and chaparral. It displays minimal fire behavior with creeping and smoldering, while numerous structures remain threatened and closures remain active.

Oklahoma

The Honey fire nine miles southwest of Okmulgee on BIA lands covers 333 acres (91% contained) in grass and timber, displaying active fire behavior (last report unless significant activity occurs). The Stone Bridge fire five miles northeast of Wilburton on Oklahoma Department of Forestry lands covers 175 acres (80% contained) in hardwood litter and brush, with no new information reported today (last narrative report unless new information is received).
