Wildfire Report — National Overview
The U.S. is at Preparedness Level 2.
Initial attack activity across the country is light, with 70 new fires reported nationwide yesterday.
Firefighters are currently working to manage 26 uncontained large fires, with 1 new large incident emerging, 2 large fires contained, and 6,824 total personnel assigned to incidents nationwide.
Nationally, 6 Complex Incident Management Teams (CIMTs) are committed.
So far in 2026, firefighters have responded to 57,087 wildfires that have burned 8,559,888 acres across the United States.
Southwesterly winds of 15–25 mph with gusts of 30–40 mph will develop across northeast California into the northern Great Basin and southwest to central Montana today.
Minimum relative humidity will be lowest at 10–20% from northern Nevada into central Montana with areas of elevated conditions expected.
Breezy west winds will also occur in the Columbia Basin, accompanied by higher humidity above 30% and isolated to scattered showers.
More widespread rainfall is expected near and west of the Cascades in Oregon and Washington, with wetting rain also expected in northern Idaho into western Montana.
Warm and dry conditions are expected in Southern California, though winds will remain light outside the deserts.
Widespread showers and scattered thunderstorms will continue across New Mexico, with localized flooding possible.
Above normal temperatures will continue from the southern Plains to the Lower Mississippi Valley with light winds and minimum relative humidity near or above 30%.
A strong Nor'easter will develop off the Mid-Atlantic coast bringing strong northeast winds near the coast, with rain spreading into southern New England overnight.
Heavy rain is expected across the Big Island of Hawai'i and Maui as Hurricane Nolo approaches.
Washington
The Northwest Area is operating at Preparedness Level 2, coordinating 13 uncontained large fires across the region.
The Little Giant fire in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest stands at 172,889 acres (81% contained) with minimal fire behavior displaying backing, creeping, and smoldering under CIMT (NW Team 13); the team is also managing the Sisi incident. The Sisi fire covers 4,275 acres (15% contained) with active fire behavior exhibiting backing, flanking, and isolated torching, threatening residences and energy infrastructure. The Sinlahekin fire near Tonasket spans 166,007 acres (93% contained) with minimal fire behavior displaying creeping and smoldering following precipitation yesterday.
The Three Queens fire east of Snoqualmie Pass covers 9,551 acres (31% contained) with minimal fire behavior displaying smoldering and creeping, with numerous residences and critical infrastructure remaining threatened. The King fire stands at 3,409 acres (19% contained) with minimal fire behavior showing backing, flanking, and creeping. The Goat fire covers 815 acres (85% contained) with no new information reported. In North Cascades National Park, the Border 2 fire spans 9,108 acres (75% contained) with moderate fire behavior including backing, flanking, and creeping while threatening structures. Area, road, and trail closures remain in effect across these incident areas.

Oregon
Oregon continues to manage extensive wildland fire operations under Northwest Area coordination.
The Rowe Creek Complex south of Fossil stands at 373,927 acres (99% contained) with minimal fire behavior displaying smoldering; transfer of command from CIMT (ODF Team 1) back to the local unit occurs today. The Grasshopper fire on the Mt. Hood National Forest spans 93,971 acres (98% contained) with minimal fire behavior displaying creeping and smoldering. The Austin fire has burned 12,884 acres (98% contained) under CIMT (CA Team 2), which is also managing The Narrows (305 acres; 98% contained) and Grasshopper incidents, both exhibiting minimal smoldering and creeping. Precipitation occurred over the Austin, Narrows, and Grasshopper fire areas yesterday.
The Hagen fire east of Pendleton covers 61,380 acres (97% contained) under CIMT (NW Team 7), displaying minimal fire behavior with creeping and smoldering. The Paradise fire in the Umatilla National Forest spans 9,656 acres (86% contained) with minimal fire behavior, while critical infrastructure remains threatened. Area, road, and trail closures remain in effect for these incidents.

California
Northern California is operating at Preparedness Level 2, and Southern California is operating at Preparedness Level 3.
In Northern California, no uncontained large fires remain active; the Floriston fire northeast of Truckee reached 100% containment at 622 acres.
In Southern California, two CIMTs remain committed. The Dome fire in Yosemite National Park spans 4,133 acres (16% contained) under CIMT (CA Team 3), displaying moderate fire behavior with flanking, uphill runs, and single tree torching. The Timber fire in the Los Padres National Forest southeast of Big Sur stands at 25,513 acres (59% contained) with moderate fire behavior displaying creeping, backing, and uphill runs, threatening numerous structures and communication infrastructure. The Plaskett fire southwest of Big Sur spans 29,993 acres (97% contained) under CIMT (CA Team 6), exhibiting minimal creeping. CA Team 6 is also managing the Timber incident, and area, road, and trail closures remain in effect.

Idaho
Idaho coordinates wildland fire operations across both the Northern Rockies and Great Basin geographic areas.
In northern Idaho within the Northern Rockies Area, the Upper Smith fire west of Porthill covers 4,848 acres (41% contained) in timber, medium slash, and brush, exhibiting minimal fire behavior with smoldering. Road and trail closures remain in effect.
In southern and central Idaho within the Great Basin Area (Preparedness Level 1), no uncontained large fires are currently reported.

Montana
The Northern Rockies Area is operating at Preparedness Level 1, coordinating 4 uncontained large fires across the region.
The Sand Creek fire east of Wisdom spans 35,520 acres (83% contained) with minimal fire behavior displaying backing, creeping, and smoldering. Structures remain threatened, with area, road, and trail closures in effect. The Davis Coulee fire on the Crow Agency covers 15,470 acres (50% contained). The Nature Grove fire on the Bitterroot National Forest stands at 1,422 acres (0% contained) with minimal fire behavior, structures threatened, and road closures in effect.
