Wildfire Report — National Overview
The U.S. remains at Preparedness Level 5. Initial attack activity across the country is light, with 68 new fires reported nationwide yesterday.
Firefighters are currently working to manage 84 uncontained large fires, with 5 new large incidents emerging, 5 large fires contained, and 20,245 total personnel assigned to incidents nationwide.
So far in 2026, firefighters have responded to 52,626 wildfires that have burned 8,265,751 acres across the United States.
Two 15-member incident management teams and 212 fireline personnel from Australia and New Zealand are assigned to support large fires in the Northwest and Great Basin geographic areas.
Two hundred forty soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division based out of Joint Base Lewis McChord (JBLM) are deployed in support of wildland fire operations on the Little Giant fire, supported by an Incident Management Organization (IMO).
Two MAFFS C-130 airtankers from the 302nd Airlift Wing (Air Force Reserve, CO) and one from the 152nd Airlift Wing (NV Air National Guard) have been deployed to Santa Maria, CA. Two MAFFS C-130 airtankers and support personnel from the 146th Airlift Wing (CA Air National Guard) have been deployed to Redding, CA to support wildland fire operations nationally.
Hot temperatures will continue across the Plains into the Lower and Middle Mississippi Valley today with highs near 100°F.
Across the Southern Plains, RH is expected to lower to 15-25% with locally breezy south winds gusting to 20-25 mph.
Tropical Storm Edouard will continue to track across southeastern Texas and weaken, bringing thunderstorms, locally heavy rain, and strong gusts to the area, with some areas on the periphery of the storm possibly experiencing thunderstorms and strong winds without much rainfall, increasing fire risk.
Scattered to widespread thunderstorms will also develop across much of Florida as well as the Lower Great Lakes and Northeast.
In the West, widespread breezy southwesterly winds develop along the Sierra Front, across the Great Basin, and into the West Slope, Wyoming, and western Montana, with particularly dry conditions across southern inland California and across Nevada, with minimum RHs of 5-20% expected.
Breezy conditions are also expected in the northwest into western Montana, however cooler weather with developing rain will moderate conditions.
Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are possible across the northern Great Basin into the Northern Rockies, mostly with wetting rain, however mixed wet/dry storms are possible across eastern Montana.
Across the southwest and Four Corners, isolated mixed wet/dry thunderstorms are possible.
Washington
The Northwest Area is operating at Preparedness Level 4, coordinating 25 uncontained large fires across the region.
The Little Giant fire in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest northwest of Leavenworth stands at 170,784 acres (49% contained) under CIMT California Team 5, which is also managing the Sisi fire (2,244 acres; 0% contained; moderate creeping, flanking, and backing). The Sinlahekin fire near Tonasket spans 166,330 acres (38% contained) with active fire behavior, including uphill runs, isolated torching, and smoldering under CIMT Southwest Team 3.
The Kaiser Canyon fire south of Nespelem covers 138,293 acres (99% contained). The Three Queens fire east of Snoqualmie Pass stands at 9,349 acres (8% contained) with minimal flanking, creeping, and isolated torching under CIMT Northern Rockies Team 2, which is also managing the King fire (2,653 acres; 0% contained), Goat fire (790 acres; 0% contained), and Wonderland Complex (379 acres; 0% contained). Additional incidents include Ptarmigan (25,166 acres; 55% contained), Border 2 (8,043 acres; 72% contained), Luna (7,648 acres; 34% contained), High Lava (2,894 acres; 38% contained), Thunder Creek (950 acres; 0% contained), and Electric (622 acres; 17% contained).

Oregon
Oregon continues to manage extensive wildland fire activity under Northwest Area coordination.
The Big Grass fire southwest of Jordan Valley spans 578,637 acres (94% contained) with minimal smoldering and creeping. The Rowe Creek Complex south of Fossil stands at 373,927 acres (96% contained) with minimal smoldering under CIMT California Team 4.
The Grasshopper fire on the Mt. Hood National Forest has burned 93,972 acres (83% contained) with minimal backing, creeping, and isolated torching, managed alongside the Austin fire (12,610 acres; 0% contained) and The Narrows fire (302 acres; 11% contained) by CIMT Great Basin Team 4. The Hagen fire (61,305 acres; 53% contained) exhibits active backing, creeping, and isolated torching, managed alongside the Paradise fire (9,593 acres; 22% contained). Transfer of command from CIMT Southern Area Team 3 to CIMT Northwest Team 8 will occur tomorrow.
The Wrights Spring fire near Sprague River covers 55,134 acres (95% contained), with command transitioning from CIMT Northwest Team 7 back to the local unit tomorrow. The McCully fire northwest of Baker City spans 13,150 acres (4% contained) with extreme behavior including short crown runs, group torching, and short-range spotting under CIMT Northwest Team 3. The Egypt fire stands at 4,553 acres (82% contained).

California
Northern California and Southern California are both operating at Preparedness Level 3.
In Northern California, the S 1 Vya fire north of Vya, NV spans 9,692 acres (69% contained) with minimal smoldering and creeping under CIMT California Team 2. The MP18 fire north of Hoopa stands at 7,601 acres (95% contained) with minimal creeping, smoldering, and isolated torching.
In Southern California, the Plaskett fire southwest of Big Sur has grown to 28,968 acres (1% contained) with active flanking, uphill runs, and isolated torching under CIMT California Team 7. The Timber fire southeast of Big Sur has burned 25,223 acres (22% contained) with moderate flanking, uphill runs, and single tree torching under CIMT California Team 3.

Idaho
Idaho coordinates active incidents across both the Great Basin and Northern Rockies geographic areas.
The Crooked fire on the Boise National Forest spans 9,054 acres (21% contained) with moderate running, flanking, and short-range spotting under CIMT Great Basin Team 3. The Flint fire southwest of Nampa covers 6,936 acres (88% contained) with minimal creeping and smoldering. The Doublesprings fire northwest of Mackay stands at 1,779 acres (35% contained), and the new Wagon fire northeast of Grasmere covers 300 acres (0% contained) with active running, flanking, and backing.
In northern Idaho, the Cascade fire stands at 6,800 acres (50% contained). The Moose Mountain fire covers 5,579 acres (8% contained) with moderate backing and group torching. The Upper Smith fire spans 4,808 acres (42% contained) with moderate single tree torching, flanking, and backing. The Grotto fire stands at 3,849 acres (0% contained). Additional northern Idaho incidents include Silver (2,545 acres; 0% contained), Wolf Creek (2,280 acres; 25% contained), Parker Lake (1,429 acres; 0% contained), Three Links (790 acres; 0% contained), Dudley (715 acres; 78% contained), and Porcupine (180 acres; 0% contained).

Montana
The Northern Rockies Area is at Preparedness Level 3, tracking 21 uncontained large fires across the region.
The Sand Creek fire east of Wisdom spans 34,733 acres (15% contained) with moderate flanking, backing, and isolated torching under CIMT Northern Rockies Team 1, which is also managing the Bobcat Lakes fire (10,828 acres; 54% contained), Moose fire (6,003 acres; 14% contained), and Skull fire (67 acres; 0% contained).
Other active fires include Camp Creek (9,637 acres; 0% contained), Silvertip (7,280 acres; 15% contained), Skillet (3,413 acres; 82% contained), Nature Grove (1,274 acres; 0% contained), Deer Creek (1,099 acres; 96% contained), Scimitar (334 acres; 0% contained), and Cooper (310 acres; 0% contained).

Nevada
The Great Basin Area is at Preparedness Level 4, coordinating large incident suppression across Nevada.
The McConnell fire east of Orovada has reached 32,851 acres (46% contained) with active flanking, backing, and uphill runs under CIMT Great Basin Team 6. The Calico fire southeast of McDermitt stands at 18,319 acres (65% contained) with minimal smoldering and isolated torching. The Hawk fire north of Reno covers 15,085 acres (98% contained).
The Blue Eagle fire northwest of Austin covers 9,218 acres (72% contained) with moderate smoldering, creeping, and isolated torching.

The Great Basin Area is managing active large incidents across Utah.
The Tom Creek fire south of Dugway covers 4,991 acres (83% contained) with minimal creeping and backing. The Slough Canyon fire east of Price spans 4,774 acres (34% contained) with minimal creeping and smoldering.

The Aspen Acres fire in Custer County southwest of Pueblo stands at 102,004 acres (82% contained) with minimal fire behavior. The Willow fire near Leadville covers 7,534 acres (80% contained), and the Elk fire northwest of Lake City spans 7,257 acres (73% contained) with minimal creeping, single tree torching, and smoldering.

The Frijoles fire in the Santa Fe National Forest east of Cundiyo spans 15,451 acres (59% contained) under CIMT Southwest Team 4 with minimal creeping and smoldering. The 4V fire covers 1,000 acres (100% contained). Additional incidents include the Whiskey fire northwest of Mountainair (351 acres; 0% contained; moderate backing and creeping), the Sunset fire southwest of Arabela (145 acres; 62% contained), and the Mogote Ridge fire east of Canjilon (112 acres; 60% contained).

The Southern Area is at Preparedness Level 3, tracking multiple active incidents across Texas.
The Ross fire west of Palo Pinto has burned 90,048 acres (31% contained) with active running, isolated torching, and flanking. The McKee Draw fire northwest of Rocksprings covers 4,416 acres (90% contained) with minimal creeping and smoldering. The Sandy fire spans 2,003 acres (100% contained).
Other active Texas fires include the Harris fire northwest of Woodson (826 acres; 90% contained), the new River Bluff fire east of Devine (350 acres; 60% contained), and the Crow fire (132 acres; 100% contained).

The Wright fire southwest of Dustin spans 608 acres (80% contained). The Railroad South fire east of Indiahoma covers 515 acres (20% contained). Additional incidents include the new Crumb Creek fire northwest of Stanley (260 acres; 40% contained; moderate running, backing, and creeping), the Black Fox fire (165 acres; 100% contained), and the Wildhorse Creek fire (111 acres; 75% contained).

The Eastern Area is operating at Preparedness Level 1, with three uncontained large fires managed under NIMO Team 1 in the Superior National Forest.
The Bear Trap fire north of Ely spans 30,804 acres (97% contained). The Thumb fire south of Lac la Croix covers 25,015 acres (97% contained), and the Sioux fire northwest of Ely stands at 6,833 acres (97% contained). All three incidents exhibit minimal fire behavior with smoldering.
