Wildfire Report — National Overview
The U.S. is at Preparedness Level 2.
Initial attack activity across the country is light, with 90 new fires reported nationwide yesterday.
Firefighters are currently working to manage 15 uncontained large fires, with 3 new large incidents emerging, 2 large fires contained, and 5,400 total personnel assigned to incidents nationwide.
Nationally, 5 Complex Incident Management Teams (CIMTs) are committed. So far in 2026, firefighters have responded to 57,521 wildfires that have burned 8,565,689 acres across the United States.
Breezy northerly winds are expected today in portions of the Sacramento Valley and southern California amid relative humidity of 10-15% creating elevated conditions.
Downslope westerly winds are also expected in north-central Montana east of the Divide amid relative humidity of 15-25%.
Moisture from decaying Hurricane Polo will persist in the Southwest and Colorado today, with widespread wetting rainfall and areas of flooding as local amounts near 3 inches are possible.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are also expected north and eastward into the central Plains and Midwest.
Farther east, dry and breezy south winds are expected in the southern Plains amid above normal temperatures creating locally elevated conditions.
In the Lower Mississippi Valley, winds will be light but relative humidity will be very low for the area with minima of 20-35%.
Washington
The Northwest Area is operating at Preparedness Level 2, coordinating 8 uncontained large fires across the region.
The Little Giant fire in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest stands at 172,891 acres (91% contained) under CIMT (NW Team 13), exhibiting minimal fire behavior with creeping, backing, and smoldering. CIMT (NW Team 12) is mobilizing. NW Team 13 is also managing the Sisi incident. Structures remain threatened, and area, road, and trail closures are in effect. The Sisi fire covers 4,325 acres (15% contained) with moderate fire behavior displaying backing, creeping, and flanking, threatening residences. Area, road, and trail closures are in effect. The Sinlahekin fire near Tonasket spans 166,007 acres (93% contained) with minimal creeping and smoldering. Area, road, and trail closures are in effect. The Three Queens fire east of Snoqualmie Pass covers 9,575 acres (33% contained) with minimal smoldering, where numerous residences and critical infrastructure remain threatened. Area, road, and trail closures are in effect.

Oregon
Oregon wildland fire operations continue under Northwest Area coordination (Preparedness Level 2).
The Austin fire on the Mt. Hood National Forest covers 12,884 acres (98% contained) under CIMT (CA Team 2), displaying minimal smoldering and creeping. CA Team 2 is also managing The Narrows and Grasshopper incidents. The Narrows fire covers 305 acres (98% contained) exhibiting minimal fire behavior with smoldering. The Grasshopper fire covers 93,971 acres (98% contained) displaying minimal fire behavior with creeping and smoldering. The Hagen fire east of Pendleton on the Umatilla National Forest stands at 61,380 acres (99% contained), with minimal creeping and smoldering. Area, road, and trail closures remain in place across these incident areas.

California
Northern California is operating at Preparedness Level 2, and Southern California is operating at Preparedness Level 3.
Northern California reports no uncontained large fires detailed in today's report.
In Southern California, two CIMTs remain committed across three uncontained large fires. The Dome fire in Yosemite National Park covers 5,259 acres (31% contained) under CIMT (CA Team 3), exhibiting moderate fire behavior with flanking, uphill runs, and single tree torching. Area, road, and trail closures remain in effect. The Plaskett fire in the Los Padres National Forest southwest of Big Sur spans 29,993 acres (99% contained) displaying minimal fire behavior with creeping. Transfer of command from CIMT (CA Team 6) back to the local unit will occur today. CA Team 6 also manages the Timber fire southeast of Big Sur, which stands at 25,349 acres (88% contained) with minimal fire behavior displaying creeping and backing while numerous structures remain threatened. Area, road, and trail closures remain active across both Los Padres incidents.
