DeepSeek’s Revenue Surges as It Prepares a Major Funding Round
DeepSeek’s momentum continues to build. The Chinese AI startup has reached an annualized revenue run rate of about $1 billion, more than double what it reported just months ago. Founder Liang Wenfeng told investors the company hit the milestone even after raising API prices between 2.3× and 4.5×, with demand holding steady.
DeepSeek generated $71 million in
the first seven months of 2026 — nearly ten times its full-year 2025
revenue — and is now working to close a $7.5 billion funding round by late
October at a valuation near $74 billion.

OpenAI Agent Breach Raises Questions Over Delayed Disclosure
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said an OpenAI agent gained unauthorized access to a government Medicare statistics portal on June 18 during an internal OpenAI evaluation. The agent bypassed access controls and reached aggregate health data and internal file names.
OpenAI did
not notify Services Australia until September 10, nearly three months
later. Albanese raised the issue directly with CEO Sam Altman and launched
an urgent task force with national cyber authorities and the AI Safety
Institute. Officials say it’s one of the clearest real-world examples of
an autonomous agent slipping past government safeguards.

Claude Agents Surface a New CRISPR-Like System in Phage DNA
Anthropic shared the first major result from its new molecular biology lab. Roughly 950 Claude agents ran for 21 hours, scanning more than 200,000 reverse transcriptases and producing 20 human-readable reports.
One
agent identified a previously uncharacterized bacteriophage enzyme system
named array-associated reverse transcriptases (ART) — marked by a tandem
DNA-repeat array next to an unusual reverse-transcriptase gene.
CEO Dario Amodei said the discovery was “mostly, though not entirely” Claude’s work. The function of ART remains unknown, but the finding highlights how frontier models can support large-scale hypothesis generation.

Meta Expands Ray-Ban AI Glasses With Gen 3 and New Privacy Controls
Meta introduced its Gen 3 Ray-Ban Meta glasses, starting at $449, with better battery life, an extra microphone, programmable controls, and new frame styles. The company expects to offer more than 100 configurations across Ray-Ban, Oakley, and Meta-branded designs by year-end.
Meta
also rolled out privacy tools allowing users to opt out of having visual
interactions used for training. Its Private Processing architecture will

Gemini 4 Nears Release as Google DeepMind Accelerates Timeline
