Wildfire Report — National Overview
The U.S. remains at Preparedness Level 5. Initial attack activity across the country is light, with 100 new fires reported nationwide yesterday. Firefighters are currently working to manage 92 uncontained large fires, with 4 new large incidents emerging and 21,371 total personnel assigned to incidents nationwide. So far in 2026, firefighters have responded to 51,774 wildfires that have burned 8,107,724 acres across the United States.
An international contingent from Australia and New Zealand — two 15-member incident management teams and 212 fireline personnel — remains assigned to support large fires in the Northwest and Great Basin geographic areas. Two hundred forty soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division based out of Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) remain deployed in support of wildland fire operations on the Little Giant fire, supported by an assigned Incident Management Organization (IMO). Two MAFFS C-130 airtankers from the 302nd Airlift Wing (Air Force Reserve, CO) and one from the 152nd Airlift Wing (NV Air National Guard) are deployed to Klamath Falls, OR, while two MAFFS C-130 airtankers and support personnel from the 146th Airlift Wing (CA Air National Guard) are deployed to Redding, CA.
Breezy westerly winds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts of 25 to 35 mph, are expected across much of the Intermountain West and northern Rockies, with gusts up to 45 to 50 mph possible across parts of the northern Rockies, southern Nevada, Utah, northwest Colorado, and Wyoming. Relative humidity will generally range from 5% to 25%, with locally higher values across Nevada and northern Utah. Relative humidity of 10% to 20% will persist across inland California and the northern Great Basin, while 12% to 20% is expected from north Texas into Oklahoma. Isolated to scattered mixed wet and dry thunderstorms are expected across the central and eastern Great Basin into the central Rockies, particularly from eastern Nevada and southwest Utah into northwest Colorado and southern Wyoming. Scattered mixed wet and dry thunderstorms are also expected across the Southwest, primarily in Arizona and west of the Continental Divide in New Mexico. Scattered thunderstorms, some potentially strong to severe, are forecast along and ahead of a cold front from the northern Plains into the Upper Midwest. Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are expected across Florida and the northern Gulf Coast, while most of the eastern U.S. remains dry with near- to slightly-below-normal temperatures.
Washington
The Northwest Area remains at Preparedness Level 5, coordinating 28 uncontained large fires across the region.
The Sinlahekin fire near Tonasket spans 166,216 acres (49% contained) with extreme fire behavior including uphill runs, torching, and spotting, with transfer of command from CIMT California Team 5 to CIMT Southwest Team 3 occurring today. The Little Giant fire in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest northwest of Leavenworth has burned 162,961 acres (27% contained) with active group torching, short-range spotting, and uphill runs, with its incident management team also managing the Sisi fire (1,504 acres; 0% contained).
The Kaiser Canyon fire (138,293 acres; 98% contained) south of Nespelem continues to show minimal fire behavior with creeping and smoldering. The Three Queens fire (8,496 acres; 5% contained) east of Snoqualmie Pass exhibits flanking, isolated torching, and short-range spotting under CIMT Northern Rockies Team 2, which is also managing the King fire (2,133 acres; 0% contained), Goat fire (668 acres; 0% contained), Wonderland Complex (339 acres; 0% contained), and Grand Park 2 fire (168 acres; 82% contained). Additional active incidents across Washington include Ptarmigan (24,770 acres; 55% contained), Border 2 (7,864 acres; 42% contained), Luna (5,039 acres; 29% contained), High Lava (2,871 acres; 23% contained), and Electric (500 acres; 0% contained).

Oregon
Oregon continues to manage extensive wildland fire activity under Northwest Area coordination.
The Big Grass fire southwest of Jordan Valley spans 578,637 acres (93% contained) with moderate fire behavior including creeping, backing, and flanking. The Rowe Creek Complex south of Fossil stands at 373,927 acres (92% contained) under CIMT California Team 4 with minimal creeping and smoldering.
The Grasshopper fire on the Mt. Hood National Forest has burned 93,886 acres (81% contained) with backing, creeping, and isolated torching, managed alongside the Austin fire (10,045 acres; 0% contained) and The Narrows fire (287 acres; 0% contained) by CIMT Great Basin Team 4. The Hagen fire (60,737 acres; 35% contained) and Paradise fire (9,324 acres; 15% contained) in the Umatilla National Forest display moderate fire behavior with backing, creeping, and smoldering under CIMT Southern Area Team 3.
The Wrights Spring fire near Sprague River covers 55,134 acres (75% contained). The McCully fire southwest of Baker City has burned 8,872 acres (0% contained) with active uphill runs, flanking, and group torching under CIMT Northwest Team 3. Other active fires include Mitchell Springs (5,444 acres; 75% contained), Egypt (4,553 acres; 82% contained), Picture Rock (1,228 acres; 100% contained), Rosenbaum (483 acres; 89% contained), and North Pole (310 acres; 0% contained).

California
Northern California and Southern California are both operating at Preparedness Level 3.
In Northern California, the S 1 Vya fire north of Vya spans 9,692 acres (25% contained) with minimal smoldering and creeping under CIMT California Team 2, which is also managing the MP18 fire (7,601 acres; 94% contained) north of Hoopa.
In Southern California, the Timber fire in the Los Padres National Forest southeast of Big Sur has burned 23,343 acres (21% contained) with uphill runs, flanking, and single tree torching under CIMT California Team 3, which is also managing the Plaskett fire (5,417 acres; 0% contained) southwest of Big Sur.

Idaho
Idaho coordinates active incidents across both the Great Basin and Northern Rockies geographic areas.
In southern Idaho, the Wildhorse fire north of Kimama covers 107,562 acres (21% contained) with minimal smoldering following recent rainfall. The Flint fire southwest of Nampa spans 6,763 acres (17% contained), and the Crooked fire on the Boise National Forest stands at 6,324 acres (14% contained) with active torching, flanking, and spotting as CIMT Great Basin Team 3 mobilizes. Other southern Idaho incidents include the Coldwater fire (1,900 acres; 70% contained) and Doublesprings fire (1,779 acres; 35% contained).
In northern Idaho, the Upper Smith fire spans 4,667 acres (36% contained), and the Moose Mountain fire covers 5,341 acres (8% contained) with backing, group torching, and spotting. Additional incidents include Silver (2,325 acres; 0% contained), Parker Lake (937 acres; 0% contained), Dudley (253 acres; 0% contained), Porcupine (175 acres; 0% contained), Cascade (6,800 acres; 50% contained), Wolf Creek (2,280 acres; 25% contained), Grotto (1,200 acres; 0% contained), and Three Links (760 acres; 0% contained).

Montana
The Northern Rockies Area is at Preparedness Level 3, tracking 20 uncontained large fires across the region.
The Sand Creek fire (33,918 acres; 13% contained) east of Wisdom exhibits flanking, backing, and isolated torching under CIMT Northern Rockies Team 1, which is also managing the Bobcat Lakes fire (10,524 acres; 40% contained) and Moose fire (5,965 acres; 10% contained).
The Camp Creek fire in the Flathead National Forest has burned 8,500 acres (0% contained) with backing, flanking, and group torching. Other active fires across Montana include Silvertip (7,144 acres; 15% contained), Skillet (3,409 acres; 82% contained), Deer Creek (1,099 acres; 35% contained), Roe 2 (1,000 acres; 10% contained), Nature Grove (855 acres; 0% contained), and Cooper (176 acres; 0% contained).

Nevada
The Great Basin Area is at Preparedness Level 4, coordinating large incident suppression across Nevada.
The McConnell fire east of Orovada has grown to 20,000 acres (10% contained) with active wind-driven runs. The Calico fire southeast of McDermitt stands at 15,316 acres (10% contained) with uphill runs, isolated torching, and smoldering. The Blue Eagle fire northwest of Austin covers 9,021 acres (0% contained) with running, flanking, and torching.
The Hawk fire north of Reno covers 15,085 acres (98% contained) under CIMT Great Basin Team 6. Near Wells, the Oxley fire stands at 11,384 acres (77% contained) and the Forleen fire at 667 acres (70% contained). Other active fires include Kearny (300 acres; 30% contained), with full containment reported on the Sombrero fire (19,204 acres; 100% contained) and Juniper Ridge fire (778 acres; 100% contained).

Utah
The Great Basin Area is managing five active large incidents across Utah.
The Brushy Canyon fire north of Promontory has burned 10,002 acres (35% contained) with single tree torching and running. The Tom Creek fire south of Dugway covers 4,991 acres (45% contained) with torching, creeping, and backing.
The Slough Canyon fire east of Price spans 4,668 acres (25% contained) with smoldering and creeping. The Black Canyon fire southwest of Price stands at 3,264 acres (87% contained), and the Teddy Valley fire southwest of Beaver covers 361 acres (40% contained).

Wyoming currently has no uncontained large wildfires reported. Gusty winds and isolated mixed wet and dry thunderstorms are expected across portions of the state today.

The Rocky Mountain Area is operating at Preparedness Level 2, managing four uncontained large fires.
The Aspen Acres fire in Custer County southwest of Pueblo stands at 102,004 acres (82% contained) with creeping and smoldering. The Gold Mountain fire north of Ouray covers 39,734 acres (87% contained). The Willow fire near Leadville stands at 7,534 acres (80% contained), and the Elk fire northwest of Lake City covers 7,257 acres (52% contained).

The Frijoles fire in the Santa Fe National Forest east of Cundiyo spans 15,339 acres (59% contained) under CIMT Southwest Team 4 with backing, creeping, and smoldering. The new Whiskey fire northwest of Mountainair covers 181 acres (0% contained) with backing, flanking, and isolated torching. The Sunset fire southwest of Arabela stands at 145 acres (29% contained).

The Ross fire west of Palo Pinto has burned 85,003 acres (26% contained) with running, isolated torching, and flanking, threatening numerous structures. The Rio Escondido fire northeast of Evant covers 2,713 acres (85% contained) with creeping, backing, and flanking. The Whitetail fire west of Rocksprings stands at 300 acres (20% contained), while the Corky fire is 100% contained at 657 acres.

The Buck Creek fire southeast of Daisy stands at 597 acres (80% contained), the Sugar Creek fire west of Binger covers 370 acres (50% contained), and the new Brushy Creek fire northeast of Blanco has burned 208 acres (50% contained) with running, flanking, and backing.

The Main Trail fire in the Wassaw National Wildlife Refuge southeast of Savannah covers 820 acres (60% contained) with creeping. The Mitchell fire in the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge has achieved full containment at 1,030 acres (100% contained).

The Bear Trap fire north of Ely spans 30,804 acres (67% contained). The Thumb fire south of Lac la Croix covers 25,015 acres (58% contained), and the Sioux fire northwest of Ely stands at 6,833 acres (90% contained). All three fires continue to display minimal fire behavior with smoldering.
