Wildfire Report — National Overview

The U.S. is at Preparedness Level 3.

Initial attack activity across the country is light, with 69 new fires reported nationwide yesterday.

Firefighters are currently working to manage 58 uncontained large fires, with 4 new large incidents emerging, 4 large fires contained, and 13,193 total personnel assigned to incidents nationwide.

So far in 2026, firefighters have responded to 53,940 wildfires that have burned 8,410,639 acres across the United States.

An international contingent from Australia and New Zealand — two 15-member incident management teams and 212 fireline personnel — remains assigned to support large fires in the Northwest and Great Basin geographic areas.

Dry and breezy west winds will continue across Wyoming and spread into southeast Montana today as winds gust to 45 mph amid minimum relative humidity of 7–20%, creating elevated to locally critical conditions.

Breezy winds are also expected for the Inland Northwest into the northern Great Basin, though relative humidity is expected to remain mostly above 15% to 20%.

Stronger winds may develop in north-central Montana, but elevated relative humidity and scattered evening showers will help mitigate fire behavior.

Hot temperatures will persist in California alongside low relative humidity of 10–20%, with light winds.

A cold front will move southward into the Texas Panhandle and Oklahoma today, bringing scattered showers, thunderstorms, and areas of relief, though new ignitions are also possible.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop from the Mid-Mississippi Valley to the Mid-Atlantic, while drier conditions prevail across the Great Lakes and Northeast.
